Ke$ha Likes Kissing Girls

The AdvocatePop sensation Ke$ha is featured in a Q&A in the latest issue of gay monthly The Advocate (the one with Portia de Rossi on the cover), where she discussed her hard-partying ways, her own fuzzy sexuality and her love for gay men. In response to the accusation by some that she’s been talking about liking women just to sell records she said:

“I mean, was I using that to sell records when I made out with chicks before I had a record out? I don’t realty care what people think. I just have to be myself. Like I just said, if I feel like kissing a woman, I will. I don’t really think I should have to explain that to any critic because I’m not asking them who they are going home and fucking.”

‘Idol’ Alum Lisa Tucker Ranks The Men

8cebbcb0dalogo2.jpg ‘Idol’ Alum Lisa Tucker Ranks The MenLisa Tucker has been there, sang that on American Idol. At just 16, she cracked the top 12 on the show’s fifth season, holding her own before 30 million viewers (who eventually voted for Taylor Hicks).

Lisa is recording a new album (under Ne-Yo’s label), but she still makes a date to watch Idol’s season-nine contestants try not to freak out in front of Simon Cowell and the rest of the judges’ panel.

Like Simon, she has her favorites and those she finds forgettable — and she has strong opinions on the guy semifinalists, who performed last night. (Did you see? It was pretty rough).

“No one really blew me away,” she said by phone from Los Angeles.

She chalked the male disappointment up to nerves — it is their first week live, after all — and also bad song choice.

Here’s Lisa on frontrunner Andrew Garcia’s cover of “Sugar We’re Going Down”: “I was really expecting him to do something out of the box and different. … Next week, he’s gonna take that criticism and do something about it.”

On slick R&B singer Jermaine Sellers (“Get Here”): “That song is just, like, an Idol song. (Editor’s note: It so is, and straight out of the Justin Guarini songbook too). I just wish he didn’t pick that song. … It made him seem older.”

On retro rocker Tyler Grady (“American Woman”): “There’s a fine line between being a gimmick and capturing an era. … If he didn’t dress like that, I’m not sure he would’ve gone through (to Hollywood).”

On big guy/new daddy Michael Lynche (“This Love”): “He’s really sweet. I wasn’t blown away by his performance. What lane would he be in?”

On Texas boy Alex Lambert (“Wonderful World”): “He was terrified up there — with just cause. I just want him to shake it off and come back next week.”

Although it’s still early in the season, Lisa graciously agreed to let us in on which guys she envisions in the finals: Andrew Garcia, Alex Lambert, Casey James, Todrick Hall and judge fave Lee Dewyze, whose gravelly soul voice she compared to Chris Daughtry.

As for tonight’s results show, which dude could Idol lose?

Lisa thinks Michael Lynche should go but Jermaine Sellers might see the door instead.

What do you think? Are the guys a letdown — or do they rock? Do you think the girls are better than the boys?

Crush This: What’s New In Music, Movies, TV

Daniel MerriweatherWelcome to Crush This, your weekly guide to what’s new in movies, music, TV, and DVD. We’ve navigated the upcoming release calendars in search of all the pop culture landscape has to offer. On deck this week are Daniel Merriweather’s album Love & War, The September Issue on DVD, Olympic figure skating, and the new police comedy, Cop Out.

Music:

Daniel Merriweather’s Love & War finally gets a Stateside release on Tuesday. You might recognize the soulful Aussie from Mark Ronson’s “Stop Me,” a cover of The Smiths’ song “Stop Me If You’ve Heard This One Before” that appeared on Mark’s album, Version. Several famous faces appear on Love & War, which was produced by Mark, including last year’s Best New Artist Grammy winner Adele, rapper Wale, and Sean Lennon.

Movies:

You could opt for Cop Out, the Tracy Morgan/Bruce Willis buddy cop movie formerly titled A Couple of Dicks. The hilarity of the red band trailer made up for the so-so jokes in the first one — it more accurately portrays director Kevin Smith’s raunchy sense of humor. Bonus: The O.C.’s Adam Brody is in it!

Other options: You could see The Crazies. Because it’s called The Crazies. We’re not exactly sure what it’s about. Do you really care, though?

TV:

If keeping up with the Olympics isn’t your thing, BBC America will begin airing the second season of the critically acclaimed British comedy The Inbetweeners, about the pains of teenage life, on Wednesday. Ah, the awkwardness of adolescence — we can all relate.

If keeping up with the Olympics is your thing, the ladies’ figure skating medals will be handed out on Thursday night. Highlights for the rest of the week include various ski events. (Do you know how many ski events there are? A lot. More than we ever knew existed.)

DVD:

We loved The September Issue when it was in theaters, so we’re glad it’s finally getting a DVD release tomorrow. The documentary follows Vogue editor in chief Anna Wintour and creative director Grace Coddington as they prepare the mammoth September 2007 fashion issue. We want to take the day off to watch The September Issue on continuous loop, if only to re-watch Grace steal the show and Anna in her icy element.
