Avril Lavigne Performs ‘Girlfriend’ During Mexican Teleton 2009

As you know Avril Lavigne performed in Mexico for a fundraiser this past weekend and the crowd went mental. She performed an acoustic only set with past band mate Evan Taubenfeld.  They totally rocked it. I found a better quality video of them performing ‘Girlfriend’ which I thought was really cool to hear as an acoustic version. I guess we should get used to hearing Avril playing acoustic only sets since her fourth album due out in early 2010 is going to mainly acoustic.

And because this song was the most popular track on this album I’ve included the original music video after the jump! You know, just for nostalgic sake.

Which do you prefer the acoustic version or the original? Also, Avril Groupie is hiring a new blogger so head over to this link for more deets!Don’t forget to follow us @avrilgroupie

Video Alert: Avril Lavigne Talks About Alanis Morissette

We all remember when Avril Lavigne performed with Alanis Morissette and for those of us who were addicted to Jagged Little Pill probably got chills when the two sang ‘Ironic’. I was about 11 when I started listening to Alanis religiously and since Avril is the same age as me I can imagine she was the same age. So when she had the opportunity to perform with not only one of her music idols but a fellow Canadian I’m sure she jumped at the chance.

Check out the video of Avril Lavigne Talking about Alanis Morissette after the jump!

Because I’m in a nostalgic mood I’ve also included the music video for ‘Ironic’ by Alanis Morissette! I hope it brings you dowm memory lane!

*sigh* Things were definitely more simple then.

Avril Lavigne is Lovin’ Being Single + ‘ I Can Do Better’ Video

Everyone wants to know who Avril Lavigne is dating next and anytime she’s out with friends (or guys) the media jumps all over it. It’s interesting to see people (or witnesses) perspectives about what she’s doing.  Apparently last night Avril was at a club in New York ‘making out with a mystery man’.  So does that mean no more Brandon Davis or Wilmer Valderrama? Or does it simply mean that she’s moving on with her life and enjoying being single?

Let’s face it Avril is a babe who is recently single. Wouldn’t you be partying it up everywhere? And maybe even kissing a few boys. She’s 25 years old so I think she’s earned it.

I say rock on Avril because I know when I was single all I wanted to do was have fun. I didn’t want to settle down or have a boyfriend yet. After all she just got a divorce it would be way too soon.

What I really want to know is what she’s doing in New York?
In spirit of Avril Lavigne being single and playing the field I’ve included a live version of “You Can Do Better” after the jump!

That’s right Avril, you can do better so don’t settle on any chumps!

Avril Lavigne Is All About Being Herself

Something that I’ve admired about Avril Lavigne is her ability to be herself in spite of what’s popular or trendy. I’m not really a huge fan of her fashion choices but I”ll give her kudos for wearing what she wants. It’s this dare devil attitude that has inspired young women for years.

She talks about Abbey Dawn as reflecting her “personal style” and it definitely is a homage to her punkish look.

Her song “Bad Reputation” for sure symbolizes her “I don’t give a ish about what people think” attitude and I feel it’s a perfect match for this post.

I really hope that she continues to put this independent attidue into her music! Less then three months away from her new album and I bet you’re all shaking in your booties!

Avril Lavigne’s ‘Happy Ending’ – From the Vault

I find it interesting that a lot of Avril Lavigne’s earlier songs seem more appropriate for what she’s going through right now (her divorce from Deryck Whibley). Especially her song “My Happy Ending”. Here are the main lyrics that every girl who has gone through a break up can relate to.

You were everything, everything that I wanted.

And we were meant to be, supposed to be, but we lost it.

And all the memories, so close to me just fade away.

All this time you were pretending.

So much for my happy ending.

But as I have discussed in a previous post a man/boyfriend/husband/significant other should not define who we are. They should not control our happiness in the sense that if it doesn’t work out that we’ll be miserable. Of course it’s pretty brutal in the beginning but Avril Lavigne still has a bright future ahead of her. Hopefully one that involves lots of cute boys!!!!!!

“My Happy Ending” is such a great song for breakups that I decided to post a video of her playing an acoustic version with Evan. Check it out after the cut.

I’m not a big fan of her hair like that but I do like the black streaks better then the pink!

What do you think?

Avril Lavignes Best Damn Thing Reminds Me of The Ting Tings

So I was listening to some online radio like I usually do and I came across The Ting Tings. I was scratching my head trying to figure out why they sounded familiar and a light went off, they sound like Avril Lavigne’s Best Damn Thing Album. In particular, their song “That’s Not My Name” sounds very much like Avril’s “Girlfriend”.

Check their video out:

Now watch Avril Lavigne’s “Girlfriend” video and compare:

I know there is a lot of talk about Avril’s new album being more acoustic. And I know that I said I thought that was a good idea for her to return to her roots. Well this just made me change my mind. I think Avril should continue with this fun, hip-hop inspired sound. It’s more current.

I want to know what you think so shoot me a comment!
